– Continuous Participation in Free Meal Service Activity for Dosshouse Residents at Jonggno twice a month –

Hyundai Corporation Group Volunteer Service Society donated sealing machines for packing a bag lunch* to ‘Seoul Kkotdongne Sarangui-Zip” which is a free meal service volunteer service group on the 14th (Thu). The sealing machines donated on that day are due to be used for free meal service activity for Jongno dosshouse, which is conducted by Seoul Kkotdongne Sarangui-Zip. (*Sealing machine: A machine used for seal-packing a container or a bag, in which contents are put)

There is a special reason for the volunteer service society to donate a sealing machine. The hitherto volunteer service society has participated in free meal service activity for its adjacent dosshouse residents by visiting ‘Seoul Kkotdongne Sarangui-Zip” every other week each month.

For free meal service, the first thing to do is to cook food and pack it, and then individual food(rice, soup and side dishes, etc.) has been put in a portable sanitary plastic pack separately up to now. However, this packing work requires many service workers’ hands; particularly, in case of hot food like rice and soup, etc., packing had to be done after they were cooled to some degree, which has been a bothersome job. On this, the volunteer service society had a discussion about how to efficiently pack the food with the host-‘Sarangui-Jip’; as a result, both sides got to devise ‘a packing method of using a sealing machine’ as a scheme to solve both sanitation and convenience.

That day, ‘Sarangui-Zip’ sent their expressions of gratitude to Hyundai Corporation Group Volunteer Service Society, saying that they can do packing more conveniently and safely than usual using the donated sealing machines for soup packing; in particular, Jongno dosshouse residents also showed their thanks for getting to eat well-packed soup in a warm state even in spite of sudden cold of the day.

Hyundai Corporation Group Volunteer Service Society, which was first organized as a spontaneous volunteer gathering in June last year, has steadily conducted free meal service activity for dosshouse(Jjokbang’) residents twice a month following the last year. Last July, Hyundai Corporation also provided two hundred portions of Ginseng Chicken soup to dosshouse residents so that they can beat the sweltering heat in summer.
