Although mangos are the representative agricultural product of Cambodia, Cambodia has had no quarantine system and distribution system, which are essential for export. Most of them are sold cheaply to neighboring nations through trucks without special processing.
For exports of fresh fruits, strict quarantine procedures are required. The most commonly used method is the Vapor Heat Treatment (VHT). This center is the first modern agricultural distribution center in Cambodia that can meet the international standards of quarantine. The Center will be responsible for the commercialization of Cambodian agricultural products including classification, washing, sorting, quarantine, processing and packaging, etc. The agency will play a pivotal role in exporting the products to third countries such as Korea, China, Japan, Southeast asia and the EU, etc.
The project is regarded as win-win opportunity for both Cambodia and Korea. Cambodia can solve the problems about the farmer’s sales and expect them to improve their income. In addition, it can acquire advanced quarantine and distribution technologies and know-how from Korea. In Korea, domestic consumers will also be able to buy high quality Cambodian tropical fruits at a reasonable price.
