1. I am wondering about the works in charge.Planning Team is largely divided into two parts of ‘performance management’ and ‘strategic planning’. I work in the strategic planning part. The strategic planning is segmented for each business part for persons in charge and I am mainly in charge of shipbuilding, plant, electric and electronics, construction equipment, and recycled energy and other heavy industries field.
2. Could you elaborate in more details?I check the detailed status and trend of the business field I am in and undertake the work to forecast in mid-term and long-term. Through this effort, I continuously review and report the agenda for examination on the presence of our company (checking on business portfolio), presenting the future scheme (item for new advancement and review of national and new business investment) and other agenda.
3. What do you think is the strength of the Planning Team affairs? The work offers me to encounter diverse businesses and cultures around the world. Since we are not in Sales Team, we rarely encounter with foreign buyers directly, but we often have overseas business trip for new business investment or business plan. In particular, it would be a great advantage to personally watch and feel for business fields of overseas business places that I have read via internet or printing media. These direct and indirect experiences and research tasks are continued in trainings with the macro and strategic points of view in planning and I feel it would be a great asset to grow further.
4. I am wondering what to prepare or where to place my effort during the college days.During the college days, I got up at early morning hours to read 2~3 newspapers for about 2 hours and made notes for necessary articles. I read newspapers with different editorials to make notes in a way of developing the ‘habit to think differently and summarizing the ways’. If I only depend on m1 theories learned from the school, it is often difficult to solve issues that are all tangled up. In such a case, sometimes it works out great if you take a step back and think from the other ways. Flexibility in thinking in opposite angles would be a strong support on any matter that is undertaken.
5. What is the secret of successful corporate life?My motto is to have the ‘goal to bring out 120% outcome for given assignments’. It is true that it is somewhat physically difficult, but if you look back, the feeling should be there for 120% growth for both company’s competency and my own competency as well.
6. Is there anything that you wish to recommend the future newcomers to experience?Studying hard for foreign language, gaining good grades in classes and acquiring useful licenses, and other general experiences like extra curriculum activities are very previous. However, as it may sound a little like abstract, I recommend acquiring ‘logical thinking’ and significant experiences. For example, for employees at our company to persuade well of foreign buyers or cooperative companies well, or persuade top management or direct superior, there has to be strong power of ‘logic’ to begin with. Without the training in ‘logical thinking’, it is extremely hard to work well in any organization or business field. And, the humanities would be the comprehensive collection of various logics and thoughts around the world. I would recommend having the reading materials on humanities all the time to develop the insight to see through phenomenon in diverse points of view.
