HYUNDAI Corporation, won an order for emergency generator of KRW 57 billion in nuclear power market in India
– 10 Himsen Engines of HHI to be supplied to Kudankulam NPP Unit 3&4 –
HYUNDAI Corporation has signed an ‘Emergency Generator Supply Agreement’ of USD 49 million (approx. KRW 57 billion) with Powerica, a private utility company in India, on July 9 (Tue.), 2019. The emergency generator to be supplied this time is 10 Himsen engines which are 6.3MW medium-sized engines and scheduled to be supplied to Kudankulam NPP Unit 3&4 in Tamil Nadu, southern part of India by 2022.
Emergency generator of nuclear power plant is the equipment that helps stable maintenance of reactor by supplying the electric power when the nuclear power plant stopped operation due to urgent situation. To prevent critical accidents such as meltdown (core), the emergency power should be supplied within 15 seconds which requires high stability and quality of equipment. The emergency generator of HII passed the authorized test of KEPIC and is equipped with high stability and quality enough to supply electric power stably despite of strong earthquake more than 8 in magnitude.
Indian government has discussed the cooperation in nuclear power generation at the summit with South Korean President, Moon Jae-In in February of this year in order to solve the insufficient electric power through construction of nuclear power plant. It is more meaningful that HYUNDAI Corporation who has experience supplying the land-based power generation engine in Indian market but has no experience in supplying the engine used for nuclear power generation, has supplied the engine for nuclear power generation.
Jeon Jong-wook, general manager of energy team of industrial plant headquarter, who is in charge of this project, said “Following the Kudankulam NPP Unit 3&4, the bid announcement for Unit 5&6 is scheduled for early next year. We plan to obtain future supply contract by taking advantage of this order experience in Indian market which is emerging as World Three Nuclear Power Market with China and Russia.”
Meanwhile, Industrial plant headquarter is promoting market expansion with overseas leading strategic partners such as Powerica of India, NG Energo of Russia. In addition, in 2019, they are focusing on discovering strategic partner in USA to advance North American market and are devoted to expand the profits by making good results from other projects and items currently being promoted.
